Although Amazing Alex isn’t the smash-hit that Angry Birds was, mobile developer Rovio has seemingly bottled lightning twice with Bad Piggies. All it took was three hours after hitting the App Store.

According to the company’s official PR line, the spin-off is Rovio’s fastest game to hit the “Number 1″ slot in the App Store. It’s also the top free game in the Google Play store, as well.

It’s pretty telling that a success like this only comes for Rovio with the Angry Birds-focused theme, since buying out an original IP and rebranding it didn’t surpass their original product.

Given Rovio’s proclivity for brand promotion, expect a bunch of Bad Piggies toys to pop up this holiday season.

In order to fuel the successful title with more content for the rapidly growing fanbase, Rovio has announced that they’ll be adding a new episode titled “Flight Into The Night”—a multi-level pack with extra unlockable content.
