Batman: Arkham Origins developers Warner Bros. Games Montreal shared fan concern over their ability to deliver a Rocksteady-quality experience, senior producer Ben Mattes told Eurogamer.
“Resistance and reluctance exists at every level,” Mattes told Eurogamer. “There were fans who said: ‘They’re not Rocksteady, they can’t make an Arkham game.’ And there were concerns within the organization that we weren’t going to deliver the special sauce of a Rocksteady game.”
Of course, these concerns bred motivational pressure—impetus, passion-fueled drive—within the team to live up to Rocksteady’s caliber.
“You don’t want to be the guys who messed up and ran into the ground one of the absolute top-rated franchises of all time. You don’t want that at the top of your CV,” Mattes added. “So I think there was an extra desire to create something really great as we were fully aware of the opportunity we had.”
As to whether or not Mattes and the team at Warner Bros. Games Montreal were able to capture that distinctive Rocksteady essence in Arkham Origins? Well, check out Ray’s review to learn whether they accomplished that or not.
