Update 2: The leaks continue, this time with 7-minutes of footage.
Update: As I figured, the cat’s out of the bag and EA’s owning it as a result. The official Battlefield website now acknowledge Hardline’s existence, and while there’s no details beyond confirmation of it all—heists, cops and robbers, the game name, et cetera—they do confirm it’s official unveiling at E3, at 12 p.m. PT on June 9 during EA’s press conference.
Original Story: The next Battlefield will be a game of cops and robbers called Battlefield Hardline, according to leaked source code from the Battlelog blog.
Sifting through the code, web developer and Battlefield fan Koen Vlaswinkel discovered the game’s logo and a few images pertaining to game modes, one called Blood Money, another Heist. Vlaswinkel also uncovered references to four classes: Operator, Mechanic, Enforcer, and Professional, as well as two team logos for SWAT and Thieves.
In addition to a whole mess of logos for various vehicles, vehicle unlocks, weapon accessories, weapons, and awards, Vlaswinkel also stumbled upon Dead Space developer Visceral’s logo, indicating that the EA-owned studio is heading development on Hardline (freeing DICE up to juggle Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars: Battlefront). This marks the first instance of a Battlefield title being developed outside of DICE.
Within the code, Battlefield Hardline is listed for Windows PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360. Provided this leak doesn’t spur EA to announce Battlefield Hardline sooner, expect its proper reveal to come during the E3 2014 press conferences on Monday, June 9.
