In a post on the official Battlefield blog today, a few more details emerged about how Battlefield 3 will allow players to customize their in-game experience to their specific tastes.
Battlefield 3 will allow “unprecedented flexibility” in how you tailer your kits. While the four classes – Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon – will all start off with default kits, from there you’ll have a huge amount of customization.
Here’s one example that was given:
“Take the Assault class, for example. As you may know by now, this is now the class that has the ability to equip both a defibrillator and medkit for frontline medic abilities. But if you would prefer to switch your add-ons to, say, an underslung grenade launcher with 40mm grenades, go ahead! That will give you an Assault soldier with a more offensive set of capabilities than the player who opts for the default medic approach.”
The blog post goes on to say that such play style choices will be all through the game. For example, when flying a jet, you may choose Maverick ATG missiles to concentrate on taking out enemy tanks, or you may go for AA missiles to better challenge other planes.
When using an assault rifle, will you go for the heavy barrel, which gives you better accuracy for single shots, but which adds stronger recoil in full auto mode? Or might you go a different route, modifying the assault rifle to be better at long-range shots, or maybe close quarters combat?
“In short,” the blog concludes, “we think there has never been a better time to be a Battlefield gamer, no matter your play style.”
