Battlefield 3 Ships 10 Million in First Week, Re-orders Already Placed

THE BUZZ: Wondering how well Battlefield 3 has been doing sales-wise since launch? Here’s a bit of info on that.
During EA’s conference call today, CEO John Riccitiello announced that the company has shipped more than 10 million copies of Battlefield 3 to retailers. To add to that, Riccitiello noted that EA has already started receiving re-order requests by some retailers in order to help replenish stock. To make that even more impressive, Battlefield 3 hasn’t officially launched in Europe yet. (The games shipped to retailers there will still count in the 10 million, but those shops will also, no doubt, be placing re-orders of their own soon.)
Riccitiello also mentioned that the “lion’s share” of copies shipped of the game are Xbox 360 and PS3 version. Of course, this should come as no surprise—PC players these days tend to prefer getting their games via digital download solutions.
EGM’s TAKE: Just a couple of hours ago, I was wondering how Battlefield 3 was going to end up doing in comparison to Battlefield Bad Company 2‘s nearly 11 million units sold. If a majority of those copies sell through to consumers, looks like Battlefield 3 could not only end up beating Bad Company 2 by a large margin in the long run, but catch up to its lifetime sales in very quick order.
