Battlefield 3′s Tactical Lighting Being Patched—Before and After Screenshots
Posted on November 8, 2011 AT 04:44pm
THE BUZZ: There’s been some complaints about the tactical lighting effect going on in Battlefield 3, and DICE has announced a change will be coming in the game’s next patch.
To show off the change, DICE’s Alan Kertz posted three screenshots to his Twitter account. In the first, we see the game with no tactical lighting as a point of reference. The second shot is the current implementation of lighting, while the third shot will be what players will see after the patch.
While DICE has mentioned that this change will indeed be part of that next patch, the exact release window for said patch has not yet been announced.
EGM’s TAKE: This seems like one of those instances where a game’s developer may have been trying to give a particular element more realism, but that realism doesn’t translate well in terms of how a game actually plays. So, I think that DICE didn’t mean any harm in how they originally had the effect, but it’s good that they’re listening to fans and making the change.
