EA and DICE have sent out Battlefield 4 Alpha invites to a small selection of Battlefield players. The Alpha is set to begin later today, according to the email.
The email invite, posted on NeoGAF, tells players that the purpose of the Alpha is to perform a number of server-related tests ahead of the game’s launch. “This is a highly tech-focused, white-boxed Alpha Trial that does not represent final quality of the game. Most of the level textures will be white (except soldiers and vehicles) and performance at this early stage will be potentially choppy, with possible issues such as server lag and downtime,” the developer stresses.
The Alpha is set to run for two weeks, starting from today, and the servers will be available from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pacific Time each day.
DICE’s “JBRipley” later posted on Reddit letting fans know that all of the invites have now been sent, so if you don’t have one now then you’re out of luck. “Everyone who has been selected for the alpha should have gotten it in Origin and received an email. Everyone else, the beta is in the fall :)”
Don’t feel too bad about not getting into the Alpha however as it will not be the same build that was shown at E3. Basically every map has no textures and is populated with white boxes for buildings, as the email states.
