Battlefield 4 to be Less Linear Than Predecessor, Give Players More Choice

Posted on June 28, 2013 AT 12:02pm

Battlefield 4 will feature a less linear campaign than the previous game, EA DICE studio head Karl Magnus Troedsson told Official PlayStation Magazine U.K. during an interview.

“There are signature multiplayer elements that we want to bring into single-player,” Troedsson told PlayStation Magazine. “We want to give the player a choice. Do they want to go for the sneaky approach with a sniper rifle and a silenced pistol, or do they want to take a jeep and have the entire squad shoot at everything they see?”

This is partly in response to complaints about Battlefield 3′s single-player campaign, which—having just replayed—I can tell you is super, super linear and severely limited in options. But I imagine DICE’s decision to make a more rounded, versatile experience for players in Battlefield 4 is also just a natural evolution of the franchise, especially jumping to next-gen.

EA DICE also intends to tell a much more engaging story in the fourth Battlefield.

Battlefield 4 launches on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 October 29 in North America, November 1 in Europe, with Xbox One and PS4 versions to follow. in time for both system’s launches.
