EGM has gotten the go-ahead from Ubisoft to publish the two South Park: The Stick of Truth screenshots that have been making headlines yesterday and today.

After sending a fresh batch of South Park screenshots yesterday, Ubisoft sent a second email requesting that websites not publish two of the images. This caused a bit of stir online, but after reaching out to the ESRB and Ubisoft, we’ve gotten clarification on the issue and approval to run these wildly controversial screenshots.

“ESRB notified us via email approval process the screens in question were not allowed for ‘editorial use,'” Ubisoft public relations coordinator Travis Varner informed EGM in an email. “We thought it was a little strange too, but we quickly requested a take-down notice to avoid any fines or sanctions from the ESRB.

“We later learned the ESRB was mistaken and meant to state the images were not approved for ‘marketing use,’ not “editorial.”

So now that we know it’s totally okay to post these images, we’ve gone ahead and uploaded them in super high res for your viewing pleasure.

South Park: The Stick of Truth farts its way onto PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 later this year.
