THE BUZZ: Bethesda has issued a statement denying all reports of Prey 2 being cancelled, instead confirming the game is very much alive.
The only downside to this announcement is that the game has now slipped from its original 2012 window due to concerns over quality. The publisher issued the following statement:
“Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards.”
“Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.”
EGM’s TAKE: This fantastic news. The game was showing such promise that we couldn’t believe that Bethesda would actually pull the plug. The added wait until 2013 is a bit of a downer, but at least there’s still a game to look forward to. There must have been some serious quality issues to warrant full radio silence on the game’s future and implementing such a hefty delay on it. Hopefully Human head can deliver a superb game in 2013.
Are you glad that the game is still alive? Let us know in the comments below.
