Bethesda have once more taken to Twitter to tease an upcoming game, this time industrial, mechanical-heavy images.

The three images (seen below) depict what looks like a red, HAL-style robotic eye of some sort, small missiles or ammunition, and the shadows of people cast on what appears to be a large fan structure. In the bottom left corner, there’s a hashtag and the number 1960. Each image has also been marked with an “x,” a “y,” and a “z” respectively.

According to a follow up tweet from Bethesda, “this morning’s tease is not related to anything @BGS_Devs is working on”—which means it ain’t related to Elder Scrolls (clearly) or Fallout (frowny face).

My theory? Id Software, the developers behind Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, and Rage, were acquired by ZeniMax Media (the owners of Bethesda Softworks) in 2009. Doom 4 is rumored to be in production, and beyond the Doom 3: BFG Edition port, Id’s last project was 2011’s Rage.

Honestly, I’d prefer a new IP. It’s not unreasonable to suspect a new Wolfenstein, but outside of diehard Wolfenstein fanatics I don’t think that has much mass appeal. Doom would be preferable, and more appealing to a wider audience.

Let the speculation begin!
