In an interview with Bethesda’s VP Pete Hines, Eurogamer asked why Wolfenstein: The New Order would be forgoing multiplayer.
“We talked to Machine Games about the game they wanted to make and multiplayer wasn’t in their thought-process,” Hines stated.
According to Hines, the development team has a much better knack for telling a narrative—something I can personally attest to, having had a chance to sit through an extended demo of The New Order. The game does a brilliant job immersing you into the storyline.
“If you look at The Chronicles of Riddick or you look at The Darkness, those games have a creative element to them that is similar to the things they’re doing in Wolfenstein and that’s what attracted us to them, and that’s what attracted us to their vision of Wolfenstein,” Hines added.
In the end, Wolfenstein is aiming for a diverse and fleshed-out story. “We’re not going to force it down their [Machine Games] throats and say, ‘well, the last games did, so you have to do it,’” said Hines. “These guys do cool stuff.”
Wolfenstein: The New Order releases on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, Ps3, and PC this December.
