THE BUZZ: As part of the press conference at EA’s Vegas Game Show event today, “big news” concerning Mass Effect 3 was teased as being set for announcement “within the week”. Here’s the text from EA’s live blog of the press conference:

2:37 Andy Katkin:
Aaryn Flynn, General Manager, BioWare Edmonton is now on stage to talk about Mass Effect 3.

2:38 Andy Katkin:
Unfortunately the ME3 presentation is also under embargo so we won’t be able to share the news being announced here at the Vegas Game Show. Sorry folks!

2:38 Andy Katkin:
I’ll give you a hint … its big news that a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting. Check back in a few days for more on this exciting announcement.

2:53 Andy Katkin:
I don’t believe the embargo date has been made public, but I think I can go out on a limb and say soon… within the week!

EGM’s TAKE: From the “a lot of you have been eagerly awaiting” line, one thing instantly comes to mind for me: online multiplayer. I can’t really say that I want multiplayer in Mass Effect 3, but so long as it doesn’t negatively impact the single-player portion of the game, that won’t bother me any. (And I never thought I’d want multiplayer in the Uncharted series, and I ended up loving it.)

If it isn’t multiplayer, then what might it be? Any guesses?
