A significant number of employees at 2K Marin, the studio behind BioShock 2 and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, have been laid off, Polygon reports.
According to Polygon’s sources, a “majority” of the team have been hit by the layoffs. Those whoa re save are being reshuffled to Gears of War and BioShock Infinite producer Rod Fergusson’s new 2K studio based in the Bay Area.
A 2K representative confirmed with Polygon that “staff reductions” have in fact happened, but an exact number or estimate of employees affected by these reductions has yet to be revealed.
“We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin,” the representative told Polygon. “While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged.”
Only one employee has confirmed they’ve been laid off today: Michael Kamper, who served as audio director at 2K Marin.
