BioWare Cancels Unannounced Dragon Age II Expansion

THE BUZZ: BioWare today talked a bit about the Dragon Age series, and how they’re thinking a lot about where it’ll go in the future—along with revealing that they cancelled an unannounced expansion to Dragon Age II.
EGM’s TAKE: Yes, BioWare was working on a expansion pack for the game—one that was titled “Exalted March”.
“We will try to bring some closure to Hawke’s story but likely not in a playable form,” BioWare’s Mark Darrah said on the developer’s official forums. “Originally we had planned to do an expansion pack but had to stop to focus on what we are working on now.”
When asked why the expansion was cancelled, Darrah said, “Team sizes are relatively fixed. For us to continue working on the Expansion, we had to have people not working on… something else.”
In connection with that, Darrah stated that the entire team at BioWare has been giving a lot of thought to the Dragon Age franchise—along with the opinions they’ve been hearing from fans on the games. In fact, Darrah states, the company want to hear even more feedback from those fans.
“You’ve most certainly heard the rumors floating around, and unfortunately I can’t really comment on them. However, what I can say is that we’ve been thinking a lot about Dragon Age – what it means, and where it could go. This past year, we’ve spent a lot of time both going back to the ‘BioWare vault’ of games and re-examining them, and looking at some new possibilities that today’s industry allows.
“With that, the next thing for the Dragon Age team members and I to do is hear from you, and not just on the forums, or Facebook, or Twitter. We’ll be attending a number of conventions and gatherings, including PAX East in April. The most valuable thing we can get out of those meetings is to hear from you on those same topics – what does Dragon Age mean to you, and where would you like to see it go? We’re excited to hear what you have to say!”
So—would you rather hear that an expansion was planned but then cancelled, or never hear that information at all? Also, what feedback would you want to give BioWare about how the Dragon Age series should progress from here? Let us know in the comments below!
