BioWare Claims It Finished Mass Effect 3 Before Starting Work on DLC

THE BUZZ: The recently leaked Mass Effect 3 DLC has fans asking if BioWare purposely removed content from the finished game in order to release it as paid DLC.

According to BioWare’s Casey Hudson this is not the case and the game was complete before they started work on the DLC.

“It takes about three months from ‘content complete’ to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs,” explained Hudson. ”In that time we work on DLC.”

“DLC has fast certification and no manufacturing, so if a team works very hard, they can get a DLC done in time to enjoy it with your first playthrough on day one,” he added. ”On ME3, content creators completed the game in January and moved onto the From Ashes DLC, [which is] free with the Collector’s Edition or you can buy it separately.”

EGM’s TAKE: While it may look slightly dodgy to fans, it appears that this content was indeed created separately to the final version of the game. So if you want your extra character or cool costumes you’re going to have to either front the money for the Collector’s Edition or purchase it once the game launches on March 6. Day One DLC has always been a hot topic and seems to be becoming increasingly common. If a company is going to offer DLC it should either make it free or wait a month, that way nobody will complain. Yeah, right.

EA recently announced that it would be sending several copies of Mass Effect 3 into space, you can check out the details in the trailer below.

Is Day One DLC acceptable? Leave your thoughts below.
