THE BUZZ: Steam is building behind the rumor that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will become a reality this year.
First, the french arm of Amazon listed Black Ops 2 with no release date or developer, only to change it quickly to the too generic to be a thing Call of Duty 9. Besides this bit of evidence, Joystiq is reporting that Huge Beyer, an artist for Nerve Software who worked on the first Black Ops game listed Black Ops 2 as a current project he is working on his Linkedin account. When his profile caught the attention of the internet, it was quickly taken down. Activision has not made any official comments or announcements about the next game in this massive franchise, but with all this mounting evidence maybe they should.
EGM’s TAKE: Sure Amazon may have been using a place holder, but then, why change it once it got some attention? It’s no secret Activision has the Call of Duty franchise in a yearly cycle and Black Ops was hugely successful. And we know companies make sequels to hugely successful games without fail. So maybe this was inevitable, and the only question is, will gamers still care? For as much backlash the Call of Duty franchise gets, it still drinks everyone’s milkshake every year. There is always this feeling that the other shoe will drop and this one will be the one that bombs, but every year it proves all doubters wrong.
So to recap; The Sun is hot, gravity is better than you and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is probably coming.
