With Call of Duty: Black Ops 4‘s Blackout battle royale beta sneaking up, fans have finally learned of the mode’s player count, when each platform user can expect it, and other declassified details.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Treyarch co-studio head Dan Bunting confirmed that Blackout will support 80 players on the map, at least for the beta. This was the result of much internal testing, with the developer striving to prioritize a smooth gameplay experience over maximum player count, but there is a chance the count could change before the game’s official launch.
“We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in,” Bunting said. “So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”
From the same interview, we have confirmation that zombies will indeed be included in Blackout. Our undead friends were first teased for the battle royale mode at the end of the previous beta trailer, but only now do we know for sure zombies will show up in Blackout. How exactly these AI-controlled monstrosities will fit into the battle royale gameplay has not yet been specified, although Game Informer promises more details are coming soon.
Finally, fans learned what types of vehicles will show up in the Battle Royale beta. The list is fairly limited, but it’s enough to get players across all types of terrain. Also, these are only the vehicles coming in the beta, so more may be added to the final game.
- Cargo Truck (holds one driver, four passengers)
- ATV (one driver, one passenger)
- Zodiac Inflatable Boat (one pilot, three passengers)
- Little Bird Helicopter (one pilot, four passengers)
