As if there was any doubt, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 developer Treyarch has seemingly confirmed that the series’ popular Zombies mode will return for the next installment.
Treyarch recently tweeted out an image of a person removing a mask. The image is bordered with mysterious symbols, and the flesh on the person’s hand seems to be decaying. You know, like a zombie.
Also, they hashtagged the word “zombies,” so we’re pretty sure that means Black Ops 4 will have zombies.

The return of zombies to Black Ops 4 shouldn’t surprise anyone, not just because it’s an incredibly popular mode, but also because E3 pretty much ruined the surprise by already tweeting about it.
Still, there are a few surprises still in story for Black Ops fans. First of all, those symbols in the image must translate to something. Our best guess so far is that the vertical lines next to certain symbols designates the beginning of a new word, meaning the symbol that looks like a frowney face is either an “a” or an “I.” We’ll leave the rest up to the internet to figure out, because frankly we don’t care enough.
Secondly, the biggest surprise might be just what the heck is going on with Black Ops 4‘s single-player campaign. There’s been a ton of rumors (and some supporting evidence) that Treyarch is ditching single-player altogether to focus on modes where players spend the most time, like multiplayer and zombies modes. Black Ops 4 might even include a battle royale mode, which actually wouldn’t be that surprising, given the current state of the gaming industry.
We’ll find out much more concrete information about Black Ops 4 very soon, as the game’s full reveal is scheduled for May 17th at 10 a.m. PT.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to launch on October 12th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
