Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch with more Zombies maps than any installment in history, but these maps will have one crucial feature locked until a specific time post-launch.
Once the novelty of a Zombies map has worn off, the map’s Easter egg mission path is what keeps players coming back for more. These secrets are generally discovered by a small number of diligent community members, and they are a driving force behind every map.
In a post on the Call of Duty Zombies subReddit, developer Treyarch announced a new strategy for handling Zombies Easter eggs this year. Instead of allowing the community to pick the secrets apart the second the game launches, Easter eggs won’t be activated until 10 a.m. PT on October 12th, giving the community a small amount of spoiler-free time to explore and enjoy the map before worrying about which switch opens which hatch to make a light on a phone blah, blah, blah.
Treyarch’s official Reddit statement can be found below. The statement concludes with the promise that the team is also “cooking up something extra special for [us]”, so we’ll have to wait and see what that means.
With the release of Black Ops 4 marking ten years of Treyarch Zombies, we know how important this moment is to our Zombies community. That’s why, in addition to launching with more Zombies experiences on Day One than any previous game in our history, the team is dedicated to releasing a steady stream of post-launch Zombies content via new features, special events, regular game updates, and more.
We also know how important it is for fans to discover the secrets hidden within each launch day experience together as a community. Therefore, in the spirit of doing everything we can to create a spoiler-free, 100% level playing field for Easter Egg hunters around the world, we’re trying something new for the first time: Black Ops 4 Zombies Easter Eggs will be enabled worldwide in Voyage of Despair, IX, Blood of the Dead, and Classified at 10AM Pacific Time on Friday, October 12.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches October 12th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game’s Nuketown map has finally been teased as set in Russia during the winter, and while it will not be part of the game’s launch day map selection, it will drop for free in November.
