Gears of War

Black Tusk Studios’ Gears of War game is only 100 days into development and is still in the early concept/prototype stage, according to studio manager Rod Fergusson.

“It’s only been 100 days,” he said during the inaugural Black Tusk Studios video podcast. “I can’t go into a lot of depth about a lot of things. This isn’t going to be the place where I announce the name of the next game and all these sorts of things. Obviously it’s going to take some time to get to a point where we can do some stuff like that.”

“We are in what we would call the concept/prototype stage, so again, we’re really super early,” he added.

When asked if Black Tusk planned on sticking to the canon of Gears of War novels and comics, he replied: “Yes, as best we can. I believe fun is greater than canon. That’s not to say I’m going out of my way to destroy canon, but if I get to a situation that may invalidate a comic book or a book, I’m going to make that fun decision.”

Fergusson also showed some early concept art for the game to the camera, but sadly it was blurry and impossible to decipher.

Back in March, Microsoft announced that it had purchased the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games and that it would be placing Black Tusk Studios in charge of the series.
