Blizzard’s Titan ‘Unlikely to be a Subscription-Based MMORPG’

Posted on August 1, 2013 AT 02:29pm

Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder provided a short update on the status and direction of their follow up to World of Warcraft, the MMO project codenamed Titan, during an investor call today.

“We’re in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be,” Morhaime told investors. “While we can’t talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG.

“I also want to reiterate that there has not been an official announced or projected release date.”

According to Morhaime, “this type of iterative process” is a part of Blizzard’s development process—a must in order for the company to “create genre-defining games.”

Blizzard confirmed Titan was being taken back to the drawing board in May, after several reports surfaced online. Morhaime also mentioned that members of Titan’s development team had been reassigned to World of Warcraft and Blizzard All-Stars.” These reassignments were also mentioned in the statement Blizzard released in May, although the specific projects were not.
