Developer Gearbox Software is part of the lineup for this year’s PAX East convention, and fans are reading heavily into one of the promises the developer made for the show.

On the official PAX East website, Gearbox is scheduled for a Main Theater Show, taking place on March 28th at 11 a.m. PT. What has fans buzzing is the description accompanying the presentation listing.

This is your opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at Gearbox Software and Gearbox Publishing, along with the latest news and updates from the makers of Borderlands, Battleborn, Brothers in Arms, and more!  We will have never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises, so don’t miss out!

While it may pass by some, the thing fans are pointing out is the description’s mention of “surprises.” Assuming these are surprises of real substance (aka nothing to do with a Borderlands Game of the Year edition), the community is anticipating that a reveal for Borderlands 3 will go down at this year’s show.

Borderlands 3 is all but confirmed at this point, with rumor after leak after rumor hinting at the sequel’s impending launch. Many expected the game to show up at E3 2018, and even though that didn’t happen, it was still teased on Walmart Canada’s pre-E3 games list. We also have rumors that the game is already in the localization phase, suggesting it’s right at the end of the development process, which would match up with the hint of a 2019–or early 2020–release from publisher Take-Two Interactive.

Nick didn’t start gaming until mid-2006. Once his parents finally allowed a console into the house, it was all uphill from there. Starting out with a PS2, he grew an affinity for Sony consoles and moved on to the PS3, and now the PS4. He keeps his gaming palette wide, but, gun to his head, he’d have to say shooters are his genre of choice. Find him on Twitter @idole808

Borderlands 3 will likely debut at PAX East 2019

Gearbox's recent PAX East hint is admittedly vague, but we think it's a safe bet what's coming.
