Bravely Default Sequel Announced, Lead Artist Leaves Square Enix

There’s a flurry of Bravely Default news popping up over the past couple of days, and we won’t even see the game released in North America until next February. We already know there’s a sequel on the way in Japan, though, thanks to an announcement in Jump magazine translated by Siliconera. Whether Bravely Second sees a Western release likely depends on sales of the first game, but based on import impressions, it seems like it’ll be a welcome adventure for RPG fans.

Additionally, Bravely Default lead artist and character designer Akihiko Yoshida has revealed on Twitter that he’s leaving Square Enix. You might know the name, but if you’re an RPG fan, you likely recognize his work for its distinct lack of noses, as he first gained prominence with Final Fantasy Tactics in 1998. He’ll still be working on future Bravely Default entries, however, including the sequel. This is potentially excellent news for RPG fans, since it potentially frees up Yoshida to once again collaborate with Final Fantasy Tactics director Yasumi Matsuno, who left Square Enix during production of Final Fantasy XII.
