Bungie left the Halo franchise to start work on a brand new IP for Activision, and they have been laying the foundations for a brand new universe ever since.
“We continue to lay the foundation for our new universe from Bungie, one of the world’s best developers,” said the publisher during a recent earnings call. ”Bungie continues to make incredible progress on what we expect to be a genre-defining new IP that will provide us with tremendous new opportunities, and which remains one of our key strategic growth pillars for the future.”
EGM’s TAKE: Everyone is on tenterhooks to discover what this secret game is. Bungie is renowned as one of the top developers in the world after the success of the Halo franchise, but now they have to start from scratch with a brand new IP. Can the team really pull it off a second time? What kind of game will the masterminds create? They are well known for the first-person shooter, but it would be surprising to see Activision ask for one considering it owns the rights to the biggest FPS franchise on the planet, Call of Duty. We’ll just have to wait and see.
