The new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta trailer might have confirmed that zombies will pop up in the game’s Blackout battle royale mode.
The recent trailer primarily highlighted the upcoming multiplayer beta and the content therein, but the end of the trailer treated fans to an exciting teaser for the upcoming Blackout beta. Not only did the trailer give fans their first look at the mode in action, it also hinted at a new threat for the battle royale mode.
The Blackout tease was comprised of a scene with a helicopter full of players duking it out with another squad that was on ATVs. It was sufficient in rousing fans’ anticipation, but even more intriguing was the few subtle frames that flashed onscreen in the midst of the more readily apparent action. One of the last flashes, appearing after the rocket launcher is fired, shows what appear to be zombies from the game’s cooperative survival mode.
As can be seen in the images below, the frame seems to feature several zombies walking around what is pretty clearly the series’ Verruckt Zombies map, which debuted in Call of Duty: World at War and was remastered for Black Ops III‘s Zombies Chronicles expansion. At the initial reveal for Blackout, Treyarch confirmed that the mode would be a mash-up of various assets from the entire series, which could explain Verruckt’s presence. As for the zombies, their degree of involvement remains to be seen, but they would certainly create a more suspenseful survival dynamic.
The first weekend for Black Ops 4‘s multiplayer beta runs from August 3rd to August 6th, exclusive to PlayStation 4, while the second weekend is open to players on all platforms, running from August 10th to August 13th. More details on the September Blackout beta are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to launch October 12th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
