Call of Duty

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 developer Treyarch Studios is known to be a fan of the old cryptic tease, with its most recent one seemingly hinting at something Zombies related.

The latest tease out of the studio was posted to the official Call of Duty Twitter account. All the post offers is a short GIF of what appear to be two red glowing eyes, with a caption that reads “Chaos awaits.”

This tease could pertain to a number of things, but the most likely guess is that it somehow relates to Black Ops 4‘s Zombies survival mode. Aside from the glowing red eyes, the fringes of the two lights reveal what looks like a skull-ish face covered in rough—potentially rotting—flesh.

Some are speculating that this tease could mean the upcoming reveal of yet another Zombies map launching with the game, but this seems overly optimistic. Black Ops 4 was announced with three Zombies maps coming on-disc, the most of any installment, so adding a fourth would be ambitious. Another fan theory is that the “Chaos awaits” caption alludes to Black Ops 4 featuring an interpretation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3‘s Special Ops Chaos mode with zombies instead of soldiers, but it would be hard to imagine any discernible differences between that and the standard Zombies survival mode. To know for sure, we’ll simple have to wait for more details.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to launch October 12th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game’s multiplayer beta has finally been dated, with three separate dates that players can jump in, one of which gives the community its first hands-on with the game’s Blackout battle royale mode.
