THE BUZZ: Though it officially launched less than ten days ago, Activision’s new social networking service Call of Duty Elite has already seen a huge amount of subscribers for its premium subscription plan.
During a financial earnings call today, video game retailer GameStop announced that they’ve already sold 600,000 premium subscriptions for the service. GameStop president Tony Bartel said that with the sales numbers Call of Duty Elite has already done, it ranks as one of their top 10 overall product launches for the year so far.
EGM’s TAKE: For anyone who wondered why Activision would make a for-pay social networking service like Call of Duty Elite—there you go. It seems Call of Duty fans are indeed ravenous for anything and everything related to the series; given how big of a hit Elite is already, there’s now absolutely no doubt that the company will have big plans for it in the months and years to come.
