Call of Duty Elite Maps Currently Locked to One Console, One Profile
Posted on January 25, 2012 AT 04:15pm
THE BUZZ: The first batch of maps for Modern Warfare 3 have been released to Call of Duty: Elite users—but there’s a catch.
EGM’s TAKE: Soon after the maps hit for downloading, this post appeared on the official Call of Duty forums from member xidorn:
i got the elite on my main profile but not on my second profile why is it not allowing me to use the dlc with second profile on the same 360 if you think im gonna pay you 50$ for each profile on the same console thats ridiculous any way around this or what
As the thread goes on, other forum members confirm this: maps downloaded via Call of Duty: Elite can only be played by the account that is subscribed to the service. Even on the exact same console to which they were downloaded, other user accounts cannot access the maps.
This current usage restriction also goes against what the information on the maps themselves say before downloading:
The item you are trying to download is subject to usage restrictions. You can use this item on the first Xbox 360 console you downloaded it to. Access to this item will also be granted to all users on this first console.
So here’s the question—which one is right? Are these maps indeed meant to be playable by all users on the first console they are downloaded to? Or is that information wrong, and the intended usage rights are only for the user account which is an active Call of Duty: Elite member?
As of now, Activision has made no official statement on this matter.
A question for you then—if Call of Duty: Elite content is indeed only going to be usable by the main account which it is tied to, will that change your opinion of the service? Will it be a big deal if you can’t share that content with other players in your household? Or will it do nothing to affect your enjoyment of that content?
