The team behind Call of Duty’s new online service known as Elite have been discussing how they looked at everything from Facebook to dating sites when trying to find feature ideas for the service.
Activision VP of Digital, Jamie Berger told MCV how the team looked at dating sites because they have socialisation with a purpose;
We focused a lot of time on thinking about what people are doing, so that creates a social element which also has a purpose to it. We benchmarked dating sites because theres socialisation but its with a purpose youre trying to meet someone to date, not just meet people. Or on a financial site, youre trying to share information and are thinking about what to buy or what to sell.
The team also had to look at the social networking giant Facebook mainly due to the fact that if you want to be the best you have to learn from the best.
Chacko Sonny, Studio Head at Beachhead said;
There were a number of social networks we saw with interesting features. Obviously Facebook we even implemented Facebook integration into the games, thats been critical for us but its important to keep in mind that we didnt just blindly take features.
So will all of this inspiration pay off come Call of Duty: Elite’s release?
