Call of Duty

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster fans have been waiting for may be coming after all, but as a substitute for the rumored Modern Warfare 4‘s single-player campaign, rather than as its own standalone experience.

Talk of Modern Warfare 4 being 2019’s Call of Duty have been popping up for a while now, with the most recent speculation stemming from a cryptic tease by an Infinity Ward communications manager. Prior to this, multiple reports alleged that Modern Warfare 4 would drop this year, featuring a full single-player campaign, which is significant considering Black Ops 4‘s abandonment of the mode last year. Assuming all of these claims are accurate, however, Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign may not be the new subseries chapter fans expect.

Rumors of a Modern Warfare 2 remaster began swirling early last year when such a listing leaked on an Italian version of Amazon, while MW2 also became the only Call of Duty installment to be absent from Xbox One’s backward compatibility program. Fans were sure this meant the remaster would be announced soon, but according to a new leak, the remaster may instead sit in place of Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign.

The leak was posted by Twitter user Chaosxsilencer, and while completely unsubstantiated, it makes some noteworthy claims about the potential sequel. Not only will Modern Warfare 4 purportedly feature Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign in place of its own, that campaign will not include MW2‘s controversial “No Russian” mission, and the leak even alleges that Modern Warfare 3‘s remastered campaign may be added to the sequel post-launch. Other leaked details state Modern Warfare 4 will include a battle royale mode, will feature Specialists and a Pick 10 create-a-class system in its multiplayer, and more.

As is expressed in the tweet itself, it is important to emphasize that this could all very well be fake, but based on previous reports from more reputable sources, at least some of this information could well be true.
