THE BUZZ: Call of Duty: Police Warfare, the fan made pitch that many thought was a real game, has become reality. Minus the Call of Duty part of course.

Police Warfare, is a multiplayer first-person shooter currently in development at Elastic Games, a new U.S. studio made up of developers who’s work includes Assassin’s Creed 2, Killzone 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4. The game has been in pre-production for around six months, and now Elastic has created a Kickstarter project in order to raise the funds to create the game.

“Imagine a game that draws inspiration from the large scale, multiplayer experience of a title such as Battlefield 3, and combines it with the cops and robbers style of Grant Theft Auto and HEAT,” reads the game’s Kickstarter page. “Welcome to Police Warfare; a multiplayer first person shooter set in the world of armed robbery and law enforcement. Players will go toe-to-toe as either a member of the Los Angeles Police SWAT team, or the opposite side of the law, robbing banks as an armed gunman.”

The team likens the game to Battlefield 1943, “in that it’s a small but extremely high quality shooter built for digital download. Something that you can pick up and play for just a few minutes and have the same great experience as if you’re sinking hundreds of hours into it.”

Elastic Games wants $325,000 for the project and currently has $12,951 with 403 backers. If they exceed the total they will look to port the game to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You can visit their Kickstarter page here.

EGM’s TAKE: This is a seriously ambitious project, and based on the opening screenshots and concept art it looks pretty damn impressive. It’s not very often that you actually get to play as the Police in a video game. With 32 days left to go we expect the team to reach their target, especially considering what a fantastic idea the game is. We will be following this one very closely.

What do you think of the idea? Let us know in the comments below.
