Call of Duty Sales Finally Slowing Down?

Posted on April 16, 2012 AT 06:49am

THE BUZZ: It has been speculated that annual sales of Call of Duty games are finally slowing down.

Gamasutra reports that to-date sales of Modern Warfare 3 are behind where Black Ops was at this time last year, despire the most recent game selling more at launch.

Exact figures weren’t shared, but analyst firm Macquarie Equities believes that Modern Warfare 3 is around 4.2 percent behind Black Ops at the same time last year. The firm also claims that March in particular was a bad month for Modern Warfare 3, with it selling less than half the copies that Black Ops managed to sell March 2011.

EGM’s TAKE: It has to happen eventually, Call of Duty couldn’t possibly keep increasing sales year after year. This doesn’t signal the titles fall from grace by any stretch of the imagination, but it does show that even the mighty Call of Duty has a limit. Will Activision look to push sales even further with the next title? Or will it be happy just to repeat the same figures year after year from now on? We’re guessing it will be the former, quite how they will manage it is still yet to be seen.

Can Call of Duty possibly generate even more sales or has it reached the ceiling? Leave your thoughts below.
