The Call of Duty series’ Days of Summer event is back for a new year, bringing some sandy respite to the battlefields of World War II.
Call of Duty: WWII‘s Days of Summer event is now live, with one of the most creative multiplayer maps ever to hit the series headlining the event. The new map is titled Sandbox, but don’t think of a massive open world with tons of environments and secrets to find. This is literally a giant sandbox, in which players take on the form of tiny Green Army Men. Fight around the giant beach toys and smooth sand gradients, but watch out for the map’s environmental hazard as a giant Captain Butcher tries to burn players with a magnifying glass.
The Sandbox map will host more than the conventional competitive modes and a giant pyromaniac. Three special modes can also be enjoyed on the map, namely Dogfighting, Leprechaun Hunt, and Prop Hunt.
“A big goal was to let the players run wild: if they think they can climb on it, we let them climb on it. If they think they can jump off it, we let them jump off it. And going from there, every prop in the map took on its own character,” said Matt Abbott, Lead Multiplayer Environment Artist.
In addition to the free map, three new weapons are being thrown into the chaos: the Ribeyrolles submachine gun, the 3-line sniper rifle, and the Automaton rifle. These weapons, along with those already in our arsenal, can be kitted out with a variety of the event’s new cosmetic content. Players can use these freshly seasonal weapons to take on the event’s new community challenges, with more Days of Summer content dropping over the next few weeks.
Call of Duty: WWII‘s Days of Summer event is now live and will run until August 28th. Unfortunately for Xbox One and PC players, the Sandbox map launches 30 days early on PlayStation 4, meaning other platforms won’t see it until the event is over.
