Capcom announced a new Strider being developed by Double Helix—the studio handling Xbox One’s Killer Instinct—at San Diego Comic-Con today.
The new Strider will be a side-scrolling adventure title with 3D graphics and nonlinear levels in the same vein as a Metroidvania. Protagonist Strider Hiryu will collect a variety of new upgrades for his sword, the Cypher, as well as new abilities. Strider’s trademark scarf, no longer a stretch of fabric but rather a “plasma scarf,” will change colors based on what ability the ninja has equipped.
Double Helix is collaborating with Capcom developers from Osaka, including the designer of Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and the artist who designed enemies for Strider 2.
The new Strider is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC through Steam early 2014.
