Carmack: Doom 4 Will be Done When It’s Done

id Software’s Doom 4 will be done when it’s done, according to founder John Carmack, so any of you who had hopes of seeing the game in the near future should give up now.
During his speech at Quakecon yesterday Carmack assured attendees that the company hadn’t given up on Doom and revealed that focus is actually being shifted from its mobile division to free up staff to work on the game.
“The Bethesda family really is about swinging for the fences,” he said. “I hope that we do get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the real aim is blockbuster triple-A titles, and for Id that means Doom 4. Essentially everybody will be focused on Doom 4 as a project.”
Doom 4 isn’t going to make it out this console generation, I just feel that it would be counter-productive, it makes more sense to wait and use the extra power of the new consoles to really do the game justice. This probably explains why the team is being so hush-hush about the game, once the new consoles are officially announced you can expect more information about Doom 4 to appear.
