CD Projekt RED, the minds behind The Witcher and The Witcher 2, have officially announced that they’re taking their talents to the future. As they teased yesterday, their next title will not only have a cyberpunk theme, but it’ll take place in the same universe as the pen-and-paper Cyberpunk 2020 role-playing game.
Working with Mark Pondsmith, the writer of the Cyberpunk 2020 games, CD Projekt has confirmed that their RPG will be a non-linear adventure, where player can chose from a variety of classes, including “blood-thirsty mercenaries or cunning hackers.” Narrative will branch out depending on choices made by the player as well, much like The Witcher 2, so the story will tailor itself to the decisions you make in the game.
Accompanied by the new concept art above, the game definitely takes place in America and may likely be placed in the fictional Night City, located between San Francisco and Los Angeles in a future California. If the game follows the overall theme of the Cyberpunk 2020 series, the world will be government by mega corporations, which the U.S. Government relies on to survive.
