THE BUZZ: Rumors have been swirling recently about next-gen consoles showing up at E3 2012, but Sony’s Kaz Hirai has strong words in response to that.
At a CES roundtable today, Hirai was asked about recent comments made by another PlayStation representative, Andrew House—who stated that there would be no reveal of the PlayStation 4 at E3.
“Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3,” Hirai replied. “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”
EGM’s TAKE: Will Sony unveil anything about the PS4 at this year’s E3, or will the focus solely be on the PS3 and Vita? That’s a really complicated question—but it isn’t surprising to hear Hirai make this comment. If Sony is planning to show off the PS4, no way would they acknowledge that fact at this point. And, of course, if they aren’t going to, they don’t want to fuel the rumors.
However, ask yourself this: If Microsoft shows off any elements of the next Xbox at E3, would Sony sit back and not respond to that? Would they let Microsoft get all of the attention and excitement?
