Just after its announcement at yesterday’s EA Play confernece, we got an official gameplay reveal for BioWare’s next game, Anthem.
Anthem looks like a mash-up of Destiny and Mass Effect, letting players loose in a dynamic shared-world multiplayer environment. The trailer showed four players teaming up to fight their way through a storm, but it’s not clear yet whether that’s the final number of people who can play together.
Players will take on the role as Freelancers, exo-suit-wearing explorers who leave the comforts of Fort Tarsis behind to explore lush, dangerous new landscapes. The exo-suits themselves, called Javelins, will be customizable and are equipped with jet-packs that let you fly around the open environment.
The world itself looks beautiful, with a variety of ecology and wildlife that look like a sci-fi version of Jurassic Park, minus the dinosaurs. Not only will players be tasked with campaign missions within the world, but dynamic events like “Shaper Storms” will pop up, giving players new reasons to explore.
Enemies will drop new loot, including weapons and armor, which you can then equip. It also looked like there will be a hub center, which will be in first-person, while the bulk of the game will be in third-person.
Expect Anthem to arrive fall 2018 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
