City of Heroes Players Raise Over $8,000 for Charity

Despite their game being just weeks away from closure a group of City of Heroes players decided to join forces to help raise money for the Extra Life charity.
A 49-strong team of players managed to raise $8,618 for the charity during a 24 gaming marathon. Each member was raising money for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, which treat thousands of kids every year regardless of their family’s ability to pay.
Even players who weren’t taking part in the marathon decided to help out by joining teams and running task-forces with them, it truly was a community wide event. At the end of the 24 hours many of the players decided to meet on the steps of Paragon City’s Atlas Park to light torches in support of the game.
One player who took part in the event, DrakeGrimm, said: “It is events like this that make me honored to stand up and be a part of this community. We are heroes, and this is what we do.”
City of Heroes is scheduled to be shutdown permanently on November 30.
