Civilization Creator Comments On Decade-Long Game Of Civ II

Recently, a story travelled around about one Civilization II player who had continued the same game for ten years straight. Now, the game’s original creator—Sid Meier—had made a comment about the event.
The story began when Reddit member Lycerius posted about how he’d been continuing the same save file off-and-on in Civilization II over a ten year period. In his game, the year was now 3991, and 90% of the world’s popular had been killed due to a war that had been raging for 1,700 years.
The game, it seemed, did not see a bright future for banking.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Meier spoke about his amazement over the story.
“My first thought was, ‘Wow! I can’t believe anyone has been playing “Civ II” for that long.’ It’s been more than 15 years since we released that game, and I don’t think any of us expected a decade-long game would come out of it. It would be amazing if we could come back in 2025 and find out if someone’s had a 10-year game of ‘Civ V’ going.”
I really love stories like the 10-year-old game of Civilization II—it shows an extremely interesting side of gaming that many of us never think about on a regular basis.
