During Pokémon Go’s upgraded Comic-Con panel, Niantic CEO and founder, John Hanke, confirmed that new Pokémon will eventually be added to the game.
“Beyond first generation, there are some others that may make their way into our universe,” Hanke said (via The Verge). “We’re looking forward to finding interesting ways to make that happen in the coming months and years.”
Currently, there are 145 Pokémon available to capture in Pokémon Go, with four of those being exclusive to each of the game’s regions: Tauros (North America), Kangaskhan (Australasia), Mr. Mime (Europe), and Farfetch’d (Asia).
There is currently no known way to catch Ditto, Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, or Moltres. Presumably these Pokémon will be released via special events at a later date, as they do appear in the game’s files. Mewtwo first appeared in the game’s debut trailer as a massive battle in Times Square, New York.
Pokémon Go is available now as a free download from the App Store and Google Play Store.
