Controller photos seem to offer more proof of Amazon console coming soon

Posted on March 14, 2014 AT 12:48pm

With all of the talk lately about Amazon releasing their own game console, photographs of what seems to be the system’s controller have now made their way out into the wild.

The photographs were found by website Zatz Not Funny on the official Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações web database. Anatel—or, in English, the National Telecommunications Agency—is, according to Wikipedia, a “special agency in Brazil created by the general telecommunications act… [which] has inherited the powers of granting, regulating and supervising telecommunications in Brazil as well as much technical expertise and other material assets.”

So, this government organization is similar to our own FCC, and like the FCC, products that deal with wireless communication—or which could interfere with other wireless communications—must be registered with them before release.

Speculation is going back and forth on if this is a prototype controller or the final model, but either way, there’s some interesting tidbits of information here. Eight main buttons are present—four face, four shoulder—and the overall styling is very similar in design to an Xbox controller. In addition to a “hub” button in the center (which seems to use very similar iconography to Amazon’s GameCircle social hub), three other buttons seemingly mimic those on Android devices—giving more credence to talk that the console (and its games) would be Android-based. Additionally, there are three multimedia buttons on the lower edge of the controller, which seemingly showing that Amazon really wants to push the media playback functions of the device equally with gaming.
