Crytek Launches New CryEngine, Abandons Numerical Iterations

Posted on August 21, 2013 AT 03:02pm

Crytek has developed a new CryEngine geared toward next-gen game development, the company announced in a press release today.

Ditching numeral iterations, the new engine is simply called “CryEngine.”

“We’ve dramatically changed the engine so many times, it’s not the same engine anymore,” Crytek business development manager Carl Jones described in the post. “We have overhauled our entire lighting system, built movie-quality character rendering and animation solutions [and] vastly improved the speed and effectiveness of our editor, and even our rendering has changed with tessellation, pixel-accurate displacement mapping, and now physical-based rendering.”

Crytek also reiterated their position as “an R&D team” for companies that license the CryEngine.
