There is one question the pacifists among us always ask every time a new RPG is announced: can you complete it without killing? In the case of Cyberpunk 2077, you can’t.
In a recent Game Informer interview, quest designer Patrick Mills explained that there are many ways to complete objectives in Cyberpunk, but violence will be inevitable by virtue of the character’s profession.
“You do play as a mercenary, so there are not non-violent solutions to all problems,” Mills said. “It’s not possible go through the game non-violently. You’re a mercenary. Your job is violence.”
This is not to say player choices won’t have some variation, as Mills elaborated.
“What we do want do want to do is provide room for subtlety and less aggressive options for sure,” he explained. “Obviously that deal in the demo goes bad, but without spoiling anything, it may be possible to get through that encounter without that deal going bad depending on how you handle it.”
A previous interview with Mills revealed that the game is launching as a single-player experience, but multiplayer could potentially be added sometime down the road. Fans also recently learned that the game will implement a conventional color-code system for gear rarities, à la Destiny, The Division, etc.
Cyberpunk 2077 does not yet have a release date, but it will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
