Dark Souls III

Dark Souls: Remastered received a little attention at the most recent Nintendo Direct, most surprisingly in the form of an amiibo announcement.

Now, if you own multiple platforms, you might be wondering why you’d want to play Dark Souls: Remastered on the Switch when it’ll look and play better on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4. However, you’ll be able to see how the update to From Software’s modern classic performs on the Switch ahead of its release, as Nintendo announced that the game will be getting a free demo in the form of a network test prior to its launch. That way, you can see if the ability to play Dark Souls: Remastered on the go is worth giving up the 60 FPS frame rate on the other consoles.

Nintendo also revealed that Dark Souls: Remastered will be getting a Solaire of Astora amiibo that will launch alongside the game on May 25th. Using this amiibo will make your character do the famous “praise the sun” gesture whenever you want instead of having to find and unlock it in-game. And yes, that’s literally all the amiibo does.

Unfortunately, the Solaire amiibo is only available at GameStop, costs more than the average amiibo at $16, and is apparently already sold out. That being said, the detail on the amiibo is pretty impressive, and who doesn’t love Solaire?

Dark Souls: Remastered is launching for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on May 25th.
