Darksiders series not dead, according to former creative director Joe Madureira

Posted on May 12, 2014 AT 11:30am

New owner Nordic games intends to keep Darksiders series alive, according to former Vigil Games creative director and artist Joe Madureira in an update posted to his official Facebook fan page.

DS is not dead!!!” he wrote. “The new owner, Nordic seems very committed to continuing the series. As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon!!!!!!”

Originally developed by Vigil Games, a studio co-founded by Madureira and game designer David L. Adams, Darksiders IP ownership shuffled from THQ to Nordic Games as part of the former’s bankruptcy sale. Vigil itself closed down in January of last year.

Nordic Games also acquired Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Destroy All Humans, Full Spectrum Warrior, and other properties.

“In the long term, we either want to cooperate with the original creators or best possible developers in order to work on sequels or additional content for these titles,” Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors said in a statement released after the acquisitions. “A very important point for us is not to dash into several self-financed multi-million dollar projects right away, but rather to continue our in-depth analysis of all titles and carefully selecting different financing models for developing new installments of acquired IPs.”
