David Jaffe and the developers at The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency return for Episode 2 of their “This Week at Bartlet Jones” series for more supernatural shenanigans as well as thoughtful discussion of crunch.
There’s something somewhat endearing about the crunch discussion, which was spurred by recent news about Ryse: Son of Rome’s crunch team being given “more than 11,500 dinners throughout development.” Jaffe points out that it varies from studio to studio as far as whether long nights and overtime during crunch are a punishing part of the process, but for the Bartlet Jones crew, it’s a matter of passion to get their work done and done right.
Later in the video, Jaffe hands out cookies to fans and introduces them to one of the supernatural creatures Barlet Jones has captured, CTO Mike Ricco takes an eerie call from a child whose been dead for over 50 years, and the team’s intern cuts footage of Jaffe cussin’ up a storm while trying to capture gameplay for a video project.
And while there’s still no concrete information about whatever game is in development at The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency, Jaffe did share with viewers that their publisher is more interested in the dev team figuring out gameplay and mechanics than building visuals at this point—something Jaffe is extremely grateful of.
