DayZ Alpha Sells Over 400,000 Copies in One Week

Posted on January 3, 2014 AT 08:37am

The alpha version of DayZ has sold over 400,000 copies on Steam in one week, after launching on December 16, 2013.

The alpha is available through Steam Early Access, so all players have to do is purchase the game to access the early build. According to Bohemia Interactive “over 40.000 concurrent users pushed the DayZ Alpha servers to their limits” in the first week.

Creator Dean “Rocket” Hall has outlined a few future updates that the development team plans to implement throughout 2014, including more zombies, respawning zombies and loot, animals and hunting, additional security, cooking, and resource gathering.

Potential purchasers should keep in mind that this is a very early build of the game. “Early Access is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them,” the developer wrote on Steam. “It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”

Bohemia doesn’t expect the game to reach a stable beta release with all features implemented for at least another year.
