DayZ Developer Explains Reasons Behind Delay, Closed Beta Starting This Week

Bohemia Interactive has explained to fans the reasons behind DayZ missing its promised 2012 standalone release date, and also announced news of a special closed beta test.

Project lead Dean Hall explained that the title missed its 2012 release date due to drastic improvements that have been made to the game. “Put simply, DayZ Standalone isn’t here because we had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly, packaged simply, and sold – to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way we all dreamed it could be,” he said. “This blew any initial plans we had dictated to pieces.”

The developer is now sending out invites to 500-1000 players for a special closed beta test, which will be used to test the game’s architecture.

“This closed test will be focused purely on architecture, not the game design,” Hall explained. “Once we have confirmed fixes for issues arising from the closed test, we will then reschedule an internal date for our public release.”
